How to get your brand mentioned in ChatGPT and Perplexity

How to get mentioned in ChatGPT and Perplexity: get included in the listicles, reviews and directories they already read and cite.

Start from the data

Open your project's AI sources tab. The pages at the top were used in the most AI answers for your keywords. Each one you get onto feeds every future answer that reads it.

Prioritise pages cited many times, pages cited across several questions, and pages updated recently (editors of fresh pages are more open to additions).

Types of pages and how to approach them

  • Listicles ("best X tools"): pitch the author to add you. Offer a short description, a concrete result and a screenshot or quote.
  • Directories and review sites (G2, Clutch, Capterra): create a full profile and collect reviews — these often rank for "best X" themselves.
  • Comparison posts ("X vs Y"): offer the author accurate details about your product so they can include it as an alternative.
  • Community threads (Reddit, forums): participate genuinely and disclose who you are. Never astroturf.
  • Your competitors' sites: you can't get listed there — focus on neutral third parties.

A pitch that works

Keep it under 150 words. Say what you do in one line, give one specific result, explain why their readers benefit, and offer something that makes the update easy: a ready-to-paste blurb, a quote, or a data point. Personalise every pitch; templated outreach is easy to spot and easy to ignore.

Follow up once after a week. Expect a 10–20% response rate; the pages that do add you pay off for every AI answer that reads them.

Create pages worth citing

Original data is the most-cited content type. A small survey, benchmark or pricing study gives writers a reason to link to you and gives AI a fact to repeat with your name attached.
